If you want to play the higher octave, as you suggest, then you need to play the -9-9-777-5-5-7-7-999-| sequence on the A string and not the E.

Correct. The higher octave is on the A string.
Second bridge after the solo can also be 2-00-2-00-2 on E string. Easy if you want to join the singing.
